FAQ

Q: Do eyelash extensions hurt?

A: No, your eyes are closed the entire service & it is actually a very nap welcoming environment where most clients fall asleep during the service if they aren’t enjoying light conversation! We attach the lashes gently to your natural lash, close enough to the lid line to blend with your natural lashes but they will never touch your skin, nor hurt in any way.

Q: Do eyelash extensions damage my natural lashes?

A: No, as long as the lash artist is fully trained/certified and has significant hours of active lashing under their belt they should be practicing safe, sanitary and up to date techniques along with educating you as the client on proper aftercare to ensure the utmost health of your lashes.

Q: What is a fill?

A: During a fill appointment the artist focuses on first removing (gently separating the false lash from the natural lash, keeping the natural lash intact) then replacing with a new false lash. After removing and replacing we go through and fill in any lashes that had previously shed out from natural shedding or because of wear. This is why we encourage you as the client to take into account the removal and replacing portion of your appointment and not view it as booking just filling in what is visibly bare.

Q: How often do I need a fill?

A: Every client is different in the way they wear, shed, and care for their lashes. This being said, each client requires fills at a different time than the next client. Couture recommends based on current client popularity to get fills around the 2 week mark and the 60min option is appropriate.  Sometimes even the 3 week mark and booking 75min is appropriate depending on your individual needs and preferences. It is always better to book enough time than not enough.

Q: How do you charge for fills?

A: Based on previous experience and trial and error over the years with lashing, we have found it most efficient cost wise and client satisfaction related to charge based on time vs by week. Some salons charge by week: 1 week, 2 week, 3 week fill etc….as stated previously each client wears, sheds and cares for their lashes differently. Couture believes firmly in 100% client accountability for their lashes as well as making sure clients keep up with maintenance while staying in line with their individual budget. For example if you have two clients both having been 1 week since their last fill, one client followed with their aftercare instructions and maintained 80% while the other client didn’t follow aftercare instructions and lost 50% of their lashes, why should both receive the same pricing, product used and time? This is why we find it best to allow the client to book a fill appointment based upon their individual time needed as well as being able to match the budget they have.

Q: Can I get my lash extensions wet?

A: Absolutely! We use Ruthie Belle Sealant which cures the adhesive instantly. Not many artists use this as it is expensive for an artist to stock but in the long run it helps the client by prolonging their retention.

Q: Can I wear mascara?

A: NO!!! No matter what anyone tells you, no matter the brand, the fact that it may say extension safe, nothing…don’t do it. Imagine taking soft bird feathers and coating them in motor oil…then using makeup remover to rub and scrub it off. How beautifully fluffy and intact would those feathers be? We always again leave the decisions up to the client when it comes to aftercare and as soon as you leave our sessions it is up to you as the client to ultimately treat your lashes as a luxury investment…because it is your money you are investing in those beautiful lashes! Bottom lash mascara application is acceptable but just know that when you blink you risk the chance of transferring mascara debris onto your extensions which in turn will lessen your retention between fills.

Q: Can I wear makeup?

A: Yes, all makeup is welcome and daily routines go on. We highly recommend only using oil-free products, this includes avoiding mineral based cosmetics. Anything oil based or containing oil of any kind will break down the bond of the adhesive ultimately causing premature fallout. Face wash, makeup remover, makeup, moisturizers, eye creams, fish oil supplements, and even hair products can all effect your lashes in some way so oil free is the way to go.

Q: What do you use to attach the lashes and what is in it?

A: We use top quality products only. Couture uses medical grade adhesive, specifically designed for eyelash extension artists. This adhesive is very strong and should never be used by a non certified individual.

Q: There are so many looks or styles, what is right for me?

A: You will have the choice between

Classic- a single lash attached to a single natural lash resulting in a simple look that will achieve fullness identical to what you have naturally just adding a slight boldness to your eyes.

Hybrid- a mix of single classic lashes applied to a single natural lash and then lightweight handcrafted fans made during appointment, never premade, consisting of 2-5 lashes giving the illusion of fullness all to result in a light, fluffy and natural look that is a crowd pleaser.

Russian Volume- lightweight, hand crafted fans consisting of 2-8 lashes giving the illusion of an even fuller look than hybrid can offer. Black lash line with a fluffy feel and completely customizable.

Mega Volume- lightweight handcrafted fans consisting of 6-18 lashes to create the boldest look we offer. The lash line with this look is super dark and dense, still a customizable look.

Q: Why is there such a price difference between different lash salons?

A: Not every salon or lash artist uses the same quality products, does the same steps/uses the same techniques, creates the same experience, offers the same services truly or has the same experience in lashing etc. This is all going to affect the price points just as it would if you were in search of a hair stylist/salon. Make sure when choosing a lash artist to do your research and look at their work, close ups of the lash lines and their certifications etc. not just price points…your eyes will thank you later.

Q: Can I get a fill with Couture if I already have extensions from elsewhere?

A: Yes, but there is a possibility after assessing the lashes you have arrived with, that we may need to charge for a fullest due to the amount of extra work required to blend the two different artists work.

Q: What if I have sensitive eyes?

A: Please notify your artist in advance to allow for proper preparation of products used to suit your needs.

Q: How do I book?

A: Booking is as easy as visiting our website at www.thecouturebeautylounge.com and once on the site, select Book Now.

Q: What if my natural lashes are short or damaged from previous lash extension wear at another establishment?

A: We recommend the consistent use of lash serum at bedtime. This will strengthen the lashes which in turn will allow for safe lash extension application. GrandeLash MD is what we carry at our salon locations and it has had amazing client reviews!

Instructions

DO NOT

  • Do not pull, rub or fiddle with lashes

  • Do not sleep on your face

  • Do not use any oil based makeup, facial cleansers,  makeup removers or moisturizers around the eyes.

  • Do not wear mascara on the top or lower lashes. This will cause poor retention, and will require more frequent fills.

  • Do not miss fill appointments or schedule it too far out. The lashes can become outgrown and painful due to twisting around the neigbor lashes.

  • Do not use cotton rounds or any cotton wipes/beauty wipes around the lashes as lint can get in the lash line and become stuck.

  • Avoid heating elements like lighters close to the face, or opening oven doors. This can cause crimping of the lashes and possible total loss of the lash extension curl.

DO

  • Please cleanse your lashes daily to prolong the wear and prevent bacteria from building in the lash line.

  • Cleanse daily with our 2 in 1 lash shampoo and makeup remover which is retailed at our instore location. Rinse with warm water, and the brush provided. Cleanse your lashes in a downward motion with one eye closed at a time. Rinse your brush, and continually bring it back to the lashes until all the suds are gone.

  • Blow dry with the cool setting on your hair blow dryer. (or purchase a portable mini fan)

  • You may use eyeshadow (mineral free).

  • You may shower & swim as usual.

  • Return for fill appointments every 2 - 3 weeks to maintain fullness.

  • Gently comb lashes daily with a lash wand to detangle and to correct the direction of the lashes at any time.
